Quantification of the environment of cool stars using numerical simulations

This work models magnetized stellar winds of cool stars (F– to M-type) using 3D simulations to understand how stellar properties—mass, radius, rotation, and magnetic field—shape wind characteristics like mass and angular momentum loss, speed, and topology. The results identify key parameter dependencies and aim to provide scaling laws to compensate for limited observational data, with implications for exoplanet habitability.

First Findings on Cometary Activity from the PTF Comet Sample

This study analyzes a large sample of short- and long-period comets from the Palomar Transient Factory (2009–2013) to investigate their activity and evolution. Using a new photometric method to identify active comets, it finds that long-period comets tend to remain active at larger perihelion distances compared to short-period comets, with initial comparisons to previous studies.
